This course aims to provide flexible steps to feeding in order to individualize treatment for each client when they do not fit the “norm” of what is expected in feeding therapy, and provide an overview of how to adapt goals based on current function and ability of the client.

MEET OUR PRESENTER: 

Nadine Lopo, M.S., CCC-SLP
 

Nadine received her Master’s degree in Clinical Speech Pathology from Northern Arizona University and her Bachelor’s in Speech and Hearing Science from Arizona State University. Nadine is a Speech-Language Pathologist & Feeding Therapist. She is licensed to practice in Maryland, D.C., and California. She is a member of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). Nadine is trained in Feed the Peds®, The Myo Method®, Talk Tools, TOTS, STONES Approach, PROMPT, SOS Feeding Therapy, SOFFI, AEIOU, AAC, and more. Nadine specializes in pediatric feeding disorders and AAC (augmentative and alternative communication). She has experience working in a variety of settings including private practice, schools, and in-home. Nadine is passionate about her career and loves forming lasting connections with the families that she works with.

TIME ORDERED AGENDA & LEARNING OBJECTIVES

0-5 minutes:  Introduction/Philosophy 

5-35 minutes: Play with food

35-65 minutes: Taste food

65-95 minutes: Mastication 

95-125 minutes: Swallowing

125-130 minutes: Recap/Summary     

LEARNING OUTCOMES 

After completion of course participants will be able to: 

  • Identify the flexible 4 steps to feeding.
  • Identify how to provide sensory input in each flexible step.
  • Identify oral motor skills for each flexible step. 
  • Identify how to modify the framework for each child based on their needs and presentation.
