"What's the Tongue Got to do With It?"

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

The tongue is a complex body part made up of 8 muscles that support a variety of functions such as feeding and speech, but did you know it also impacts the voice? This course explores the common denominator of vocology and orofacial myology, the tongue, and specifically the impact of ankyloglossia on vocal performance.

 

PRESENTER: Robyn Merkel-Walsh, MA, CCC-SLP, COM®

Speech-Language Pathologist, Board Certified Orofacial Myologist, Vocologist

Robyn Merkel-Walsh is a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist, Certified Orofacial Myologist®, and Vocologist with over 30 years of experience serving the NJ/NY area. She is employed full time by the Ridgefield Board of Education and runs Diamond MYO & Vocology, a private practice in Ridgefield, NJ. She has been named NJ Kids Top Doctor multiple times and was honored as Ridgefield Woman of the Year in Business in 2019. She is an Ambassador for The Breathe Institute and has received several ASHA ACE Awards in continuing education.

Robyn specializes in oral placement disorders, pediatric feeding disorder, oral phase dysphagia, motor speech sound disorders, and vocology. She is a Board Certified Orofacial Myologist®, a TalkTools® Level 5 Trained Instructor, and holds a Certificate in Vocology from the post-graduate program at Lamar University. She is trained in Beckman, OPT, and PROMPT techniques.

A respected advocate for evidence-based practice, Robyn has authored and co-authored several publications, including MYOSolutions, A Sensory Motor Approach to Feeding, Functional Assessment and Remediation of Tethered Oral Tissues, and the OPT-S Card Set for Muscle-Based Speech Sound Disorders. Her work has appeared in Clinical Pediatrics, the Journal of Oral Rehabilitation, and the International Journal of Orofacial Myology and Myofunctional Therapy. She is on the TalkTools® speaker's bureau, is guest faculty at The Breathe Institute, and serves as Board Chair of The Oral Motor Institute.

SATISFACTORY COMPLETION STATEMENT: 

Learners are required to complete a self assessment/reflection survey in addition to a short quiz following the completion of the training in order to receive a certificate a completion and be reported to the ASHA CE Registry if requested.

To be reported to the ASHA CE registry, this registration page must be submitted prior to the webinar. To watch a recording, log into your Kajabi portal, go to "The Myo Membership" > "July 2026" and the recording will be found under the training tab.

IMPORTANT: For continuing education credit the webinar must be completed in its entirety, either by attending live or watching the recording.

What happens if I cannot attend the live webinar?

The recording will be uploaded to The Myo Membership portal following the live webinar for all current members inside The Myo Membership.

How do I obtain continuing education credit?

Upon completion of the live or recorded webinar, a survey and quiz is sent electronically via Kajabi and email. You must complete the survey and quiz by clicking submit in order to be reported to the ASHA CE registry and to receive a certificate of completion. The certificate of completion will be available for immediate download following submission of your ASHA survey form. This must be completed within 7 days of completion of the webinar.

Who is this for?

This registration page is for SLPs who want to learn more about airway, myofunctional therapy, tethered oral tissues, dental appliances and orthodontics, and related topics.

What happens after I sign up?

You are already signed up for The Myo Membership® and have paid in full for this month, which includes this training. If attending live, register at the provided Zoom event link that will be sent out prior to the webinar event. If watching the recording you do not need to register via Zoom. If you want to be reported to the ASHA CE registry you MUST COMPLETE this registration page (scroll to the bottom and fill out the entire form).

Refund policy: Per the refund policy when you joined The Myo Membership, you can cancel your future monthly membership at any time prior to the 48-hour renewal window. You will not be refunded for any training or materials already provided. If you are unable to join live, you may watch the recording that will be placed in The Myo Membership portal.

If this webinar needs to be rescheduled you will be notified as soon as possible with the new webinar date. No refunds are provided if a webinar date has to be moved by a presenter; a replacement webinar will be provided in the event that this month's presenter is unable to present as scheduled.
