COURSE DESCRIPTION: 

This online training will equip clinicians with evidence-informed frameworks to optimize therapy outcomes for patients with orofacial myofunctional disorders. Attendees will learn how neuroplasticity, exercise science, and motor learning principles inform intervention design, progression, and effectiveness. The training will highlight the synergy between gross motor activities and orofacial function, demonstrating how integrated, coordinated movement enhances learning and therapeutic gains in orofacial myofunctional therapy (OMT). Specialized strategies for addressing the unique needs of hypermobile patients, singers, and instrumentalists will be covered to ensure individualized, effective care. Additionally, the training will explore the translation of dysphagia research -- particularly regarding suprahyoid muscle function -- into practical clinical applications for OMT practitioners.
 
 

PRESENTER: Ann Blau, MS, CCC-SLP, CMT®

Ann Blau, MS, CCC-SLP, CMT® is a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist and Certified Myofunctional Therapist. She graduated with a Master’s Degree in Communication Sciences from Hunter College of the City University of New York, and holds a Certificate of Clinical Competence from The American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). Ann is the owner and founder of Access Speech Services, a private telepractice providing speech therapy services to adults and children in the states of New York and Florida. Based in New York, her practice specialty is in the assessment and treatment of Orofacial Myofunctional Disorders. She provides Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy to adults, adolescents, and school-age children as part of a collaborative, multidisciplinary approach to patient care. She has trained with the Academy of Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy (AOMT), and is certified in The Myo Method® and Simon Says Myofunctional Therapy programs. Ann has two decades of professional experience in the evaluation and treatment of adults with neurogenic speech, swallowing, cognitive, and voice disorders in acute-care, inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation settings. She is a certified provider of the Lee Silverman Voice Treatment (LSVT LOUD and eLOUD) Programs for patients with Parkinson’s Disease, and has specialty training in the Modified Barium Swallow Impairment Profile (MBSImP™). Ann serves as the voluntary editor-in-chief for Airway Circle, LLC and as an aphasia support group facilitator for Virtual Connections. She is also an instructor, mentor, educator, adjunct research fellow, continuing education course developer and airway health advocate.

 LEARNING OUTCOMES 

After completion of course participants will be able to: 

  • Define key principles of neuroplasticity and exercise science as they relate to OMT.

  • Apply a motor learning framework that enhances skill acquisition and carryover to structure OMT sessions.
  • Describe the relationship between gross motor activities and orofacial function. 
  • Analyze the interaction between gross-motor, cross-midline, and orofacial tasks for clinical integration into therapy plans to support orofacial function and maximize therapeutic gains.
  • Adapt treatment strategies to accommodate the unique therapeutic needs of hypermobile patients, singers, and musicians in OMT intervention.
  • Evaluate the ways evidence-based dysphagia exercises can inform orofacial myofunctional therapy focused on the suprahyoid musculature.

This course is offered for 0.20 ASHA CEUs (Intermediate Level, Professional Area). 

To be reported to the ASHA CE registry,  this registration page must be submitted prior to the webinar. To watch a recording, log into your Kajabi portal, go to "The Myo Membership" > "February 2026" and the recording will be found under the training tab.

IMPORTANT: For continuing education credit the webinar must be completed in its entirety, either by attending live or watching the recording. 

What happens if I cannot attend the live webinar? 

The recording will be uploaded to The Myo Membership portal following the live webinar for all current members inside The Myo Membership.

How do I obtain continuing education credit?

Upon completion of the live or recorded webinar, a survey and quiz is sent electronically via Kajabi and email. You must complete the survey and quiz by clicking submit in order to be reported to the ASHA CE registry and a certificate of completion. You must also complete the short quiz.  The certificate of completion will be available for immediate download following submission of your ASHA CEU survey form. This must be completed within 7 days of completion of webinar.

Who is this for? 

This registration page is for SLPs who want to learn more about airway, myofunctional therapy, tethered oral tissues, dental appliances/orthodontics and related topics.

What happens after I sign up?

You are already signed up for The Myo Membership® and have paid in full for this month (which includes this training). If attending live, register at the provided zoom event link that will be sent out prior to the webinar event. If watching the recording you do not need to register via zoom. If you want to be reported to the ASHA CE REGISTRY you MUST COMPLETE this registration page (scroll to bottom and fill out the entire form).

Refund policy: Per the refund policy when you joined The Myo Membership, you can cancel your future monthly membership at any time prior to the 48-hour renewal window. You will not be refunded for any training or materials already provided. If you are unable to join live, you may watch the recording that will be placed in The Myo Membership portal.
