COURSE DESCRIPTION: 

This presentation will discuss cultural shifts in speech-language pathology and the clients served. The course will cover culturally sensitive treatment methods and working with families/clients using a team approach. 

 

PRESENTER: Christina Royster EdD, CCC-SLP, BCS-CL

Christina Royster is a speech-language pathologist and Board Certified Specialist in Child Language with more than eleven years of professional experience. Dr. Royster received her bachelor's degree in Communication Science and Disorders from the University of Pittsburgh and her master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology from the University of Maryland, College Park. In 2020, she completed her doctorate at Arizona State University, specializing in Educational Leadership and Innovation. case. Dr. Royster is licensed in Maryland and Washington, DC. She has worked in the public school setting for over eleven years, primarily serving students with complex communication needs and those who use augmentative and alternative communication (AAC). Dr. Royster is also the owner/founder of Play on Words Therapy, a small private practice providing speech therapy in homes and schools. She has worked in group homes for adults with developmental disabilities for ten years. Dr. Royster is passionate about increasing diversity in the speech pathology and AAC fields. She is a co-creator of DiverCity SLP and Diverse AAC. Both individually and alongside these groups, Dr. Royster provides mentorship and professional development opportunities to students and colleagues.

LEARNING OUTCOMES 

After completion of course participants will be able to: 

  • Discuss current demographic disparities between speech pathologists and the populations served

  • Discuss treatment methods that empower and value cultural differences

  • Recognize differences vs. disorders

This course is offered for 0.10 ASHA CEUs (Introductory Level, Professional Area). 

To receive ASHA CEUs this registration page must be submitted prior to the webinar. To watch a recording, log into your Kajabi portal, go to "The Myo Membership" > "Bonus 2023" and the recording will be found under the training tab.

IMPORTANT: For continuing education credit the webinar must be completed in its entirety by watching the recording. 

 

How do I obtain continuing education credit?

Upon completion of the  webinar, a survey is sent electronically via Kajabi and email. You must complete the survey by clicking submit in order to receive your ASHA CEUs and a certificate of completion. The certificate of completion will be available for immediate download following submission of your ASHA CEU survey form. This must be completed within 7 days of completion of webinar.

What happens after I sign up?

You are already signed up for The Myo Membership® and have paid in full for this month (which includes this training). If you want ASHA CEUs you MUST COMPLETE this registration page (scroll to bottom and fill out the entire form) prior to completion of the recorded training.
