COURSE DESCRIPTION: 

Review of the physiological changes with myofunctional therapy using flexible endoscopic evaluation of swallowing (FEES). Using FEES to evaluate the changes with myofunctional therapy exercises, manual therapy, and postural changes.
 
 

PRESENTER: Christina Goodheart MA, CCC-SLP, BCS-S

Christina is a speech therapist from Staten Island, New York, with over 15 years experience helping patients and their families with speech, language, cognitive-linguistic, communication, feeding and swallowing disorders. In 2015, Christina earned board certification in swallowing and swallowing disorders (BCS-S) from the American Board for Swallowing and Swallowing Disorders (ABSSD), she was the first and is currently the only SLP in Staten Island with that certification. She has completed specialist training for swallowing assessment including the Modified Barium Swallow Impairment Profile (MBSImP) and Fiberoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES) for infants and adults. Christina is also trained in kinesio taping techniques, craniosacral therapy, Ampcare's Effective Swallowing Protocol (ESP), SPEAK OUT Therapy, McNeil Dysphagia Therapy Protocol (MDTP), TummyTime! Method and orofacial myofunctional therapy. Christina is currently in process to become an international board certified lactation consultant (IBCLC) With 12 years experience working in a hospital setting, Christina has extensive experience assessing and creating treatment plans for patients with complex medical conditions. With a core belief to prioritize interdisciplinary care, Christina works closely with specialist professionals to ensure patients receive dynamic intervention. Christina is licensed in Colorado, Florida, and New York.

TIME ORDERED AGENDA & LEARNING OBJECTIVES

7:00-7:30 pm (30 minutes): Review of pharyngeal anatomy and findings for typical vs atypical patients

7:30-8:15 pm (45 minutes): physiology of the swallow for normal vs dysfunctional vs impaired

8:15-8:30 pm (15 minutes): Discussing when objective assessment necessary, informed consent and ethical implications

8:30- 9:00 pm (30 minutes): Q&A 

 

LEARNING OUTCOMES 

After completion of course participants will be able to: 

  • Identify 3 areas within the pharynx

  • Describe physiological changes seen pre and post therapy
  • Explain when to refer for objective assessment and formal dysphagia therapy

This course is offered for 0.20 ASHA CEUs (Intermediate Level, Professional Area). 

To receive ASHA CEUs this registration page must be submitted prior to the webinar. To watch a recording, log into your Kajabi portal, go to "The Myo Membership" > "December 2024" and the recording will be found under the training tab.

IMPORTANT: For continuing education credit the webinar must be completed in its entirety, either by attending live or watching the recording. 

What happens if I cannot attend the live webinar? 

The recording will be uploaded to The Myo Membership portal following the live webinar for all current members inside The Myo Membership.

How do I obtain continuing education credit?

Upon completion of the live or recorded webinar, a survey is sent electronically via Kajabi and email. You must complete the survey by clicking submit in order to receive your ASHA CEUs and a certificate of completion. The certificate of completion will be available for immediate download following submission of your ASHA CEU survey form. This must be completed within 7 days of completion of webinar.

Who is this for? 

This registration page is for SLPs who want to learn more about airway, myofunctional therapy, tethered oral tissues, dental appliances/orthodontics and related topics.

What happens after I sign up?

You are already signed up for The Myo Membership® and have paid in full for this month (which includes this training). If attending live, register at the provided zoom event link that will be sent out prior to the webinar event. If watching the recording you do not need to register via zoom. If you want ASHA CEUs you MUST COMPLETE this registration page (scroll to bottom and fill out the entire form).

Refund policy: Per the refund policy when you joined The Myo Membership, you can cancel your future monthly membership at any time prior to the 48-hour renewal window. You will not be refunded for any training or materials already provided. If you are unable to join live, you may watch the recording that will be placed in The Myo Membership portal.

If this webinar needs to be rescheduled you will be notified as soon as possible with the new webinar date (no refunds are provided if a webinar date has to be moved by a presenter; a replacement webinar will be provided in the event that this months presenter is unable to present as scheduled).
