"Dental Terminology for the Myo Specialist"

COURSE DESCRIPTION: 

This course provides a comprehensive introduction to dental anatomy and classification including typical and atypical dental anatomy, surrounding mucosa, and gingiva. The course explores the three stages of dentition, and the tooth eruption timeline including occlusion variations such as crossbite, overbite, and underbite. Key signs of periodontal issues, oral pathology, attrition, and erosion will also be covered, assisting the specialist with recognition of early indicators of oral health concerns. Through detailed explanations and visual aids, this course builds a strong foundation for those working with orofacial myofunctional disorders.
 
 

PRESENTER: Margaret Hinkle MS, RDH

Margaret received a BS in Dental Hygiene from the University of Maryland School of Dentistry in 2000 and an MS in Dental Hygiene Education in 2013 from Old Dominion University. She has been a clinician, lecturer, credentialing specialist, and since 2008, an educator. Margaret served as President of the Harford/Cecil County Dental Hygienists' Association and is currently an active member of the Maryland Coalition for Allied Dental Education. She is an Assistant Professor of Dental Hygiene at the Community Collage of Baltimore County where she is the Student American Dental Hygienists' Association Advisor, a member of the American Association for Women in Community Collages and founder of the Hinkle Family Endowed Scholarship.

TIME ORDERED AGENDA & LEARNING OBJECTIVES

7:00-7:30 pm (30 minutes): Identify and describe the tissues that compromise the tooth, explain differences in tooth types, and identify the primary, mixed, and permanent dentition using the Universal Numbering System. 

7:30-8:00 pm (30 minutes): Discuss orientational terms to use for describing teeth. Describe occlusion and malocclusion relationships of the primary and permanent dentitions. 

8:00-8:30 pm (30 minutes): Distinguish an anomaly from pathology and identify dental restorations

8:30- 9:00 pm (30 minutes): Case study and Q&A

 

LEARNING OUTCOMES 

After completion of course participants will be able to: 

  • Identify and describe the tissues that comprise the tooth.

  • Explain the differences between the tooth types.
  • Identify the primary, mixed, and permanent dentition using the Universal Numbering System.
  • Utilize orientational tooth terms to describe the teeth
  • Distinguish an anomaly from pathology.
  • Identify dental restorations.
  • Recognize and describe occlusion and malocclusion relationships of the primary and permanent dentitions.
  • Communicate effectively with other health professionals utilizing proper terminology.

This course is offered for 0.20 ASHA CEUs (Intermediate Level, Professional Area).

What happens if I cannot attend the live webinar? 

The recording will be uploaded to The Myo Membership portal following the live webinar for all current members inside The Myo Membership.

How do I obtain continuing education credit?

Upon completion of the live or recorded webinar, a survey is sent electronically via Kajabi and email. You must complete the survey by clicking submit in order to receive your ASHA CEUs and a certificate of completion. The certificate of completion will be available for immediate download following submission of your ASHA CEU survey form. This must be completed within 7 days of completion of webinar.

What happens after I sign up?

You are already signed up for The Myo Membership® and have paid in full for this month (which includes this training). If attending live, register at the provided zoom event link that will be sent out prior to the webinar event. If watching the recording you do not need to register via zoom. If you want ASHA CEUs you MUST COMPLETE this registration page (scroll to bottom and fill out the entire form).
