COURSE DESCRIPTION:

The Integrated Case Workshop is a live, case-based session for experienced clinicians working across pediatric feeding and orofacial myofunctional therapy. Each month, mentors present de-identified cases drawn from active caseloads and walk through their clinical reasoning in real time: what they saw, what they ruled out, how the feeding and myofunctional pictures related to one another, and how they sequenced intervention.

Cases vary month to month. A given workshop may include feeding-only presentations, myofunctional-only presentations, cases where the two overlap, and pediatric or adult patients. What stays constant is the reasoning framework. Participants engage in guided analysis and leave with a structured approach they can apply to complex cases that resist single-discipline explanations.

PREREQUISITE KNOWLEDGE: This is an Advanced-level course. Participants are expected to have working familiarity with feeding assessment and orofacial myofunctional assessment, and with the terminology and clinical frameworks used in each. This workshop does not teach foundational assessment skills.

All cases are presented de-identified in accordance with HIPAA.

PRESENTER: Kaitlyn Shrum, MA, CCC-SLP, QOM, CMT®

Kaitlyn Shrum is a speech-language pathologist with a Certificate of Clinical Competence from ASHA, a certified Buteyko Breathing Educator, and a Qualified Orofacial Myologist through NeoHealth Services. She has worked in hospitals, home health, and outpatient clinics, with typically developing individuals as well as those with a variety of developmental differences. Her specialty training includes Beckman Oral Motor, TOTs, Kaufman Evaluation and Treatment of Children with Apraxia of Speech, and Solving Complex Pediatric Feeding and Swallowing Issues. She is a certified Buteyko Breathing Method instructor and provides continuing education to individuals and clinics seeking to integrate breath work into their practices. She founded Southern Speech & Myo in Jacksonville Beach, Florida, where she specializes in orofacial function and development throughout the lifespan.

PRESENTER: Sadera Braid, OTR/L

Sadera Braid is an Occupational Therapist with over 30 years of experience across community centers, daycares, early intervention programs, preschools, and elementary, middle, and high schools. Her expertise spans a wide range of diagnoses including Down syndrome, autism, cerebral palsy, spina bifida, genetic conditions, prematurity, developmental delays, learning disabilities, sensory processing disorders, head and hand injuries, nerve damage, and stroke. She has worked with medically fragile adults and children, and has experience teaching, training, and supervising other providers. Her therapeutic approach to feeding is collaborative, culturally sensitive, and holistic, emphasizing body alignment, breathing, sensory processing, and the impact of sleep on eating. She considers caregivers essential members of the therapy team and works to equip them with the support and tools to advocate effectively for their child’s needs.

TIME ORDERED AGENDA

5 minutes: Welcome, disclosures, and workshop framing (Kaitlyn Shrum)

20 minutes: Case 1 — presentation (15 min) and guided analysis (5 min) (Kaitlyn Shrum or Sadera Braid)

20 minutes: Case 2 — presentation (15 min) and guided analysis (5 min) (Kaitlyn Shrum or Sadera Braid)

20 minutes: Case 3 — presentation (15 min) and guided analysis (5 min) (Kaitlyn Shrum or Sadera Braid)

20 minutes: Case 4 — presentation (15 min) and guided analysis (5 min) (Kaitlyn Shrum or Sadera Braid)

10 minutes: Cross-case integration, participant questions, and closing (all presenters)

Total educational time: 95 minutes (0.15 ASHA CEUs)

LEARNING OUTCOMES

After completion of this course participants will be able to:

• Analyze presented cases to identify contributing feeding, orofacial myofunctional, and related structural or functional factors.
• Differentiate findings that indicate a primary feeding concern from those that indicate a primary myofunctional concern, including presentations in which only one domain is involved.
• Apply a structured clinical reasoning framework to sequence intervention priorities across pediatric and adult presentations.
• Identify indicators within a presented case that warrant referral to or collaboration with another discipline.

This course is offered for 0.15 ASHA CEUs (Advanced Level, Professional Area).

Satisfactory completion: Learners are required to complete a self assessment/reflection survey in addition to a short quiz following the completion of the training in order to receive a certificate of completion and be reported to the ASHA CE Registry if requested. A passing score of 80% is required.

To be reported to the ASHA CE Registry, this registration page must be submitted prior to the workshop.

IMPORTANT: For continuing education credit the workshop must be attended live in its entirety. If you plan to watch the recording instead, use the separate recording registration page, which is registered with ASHA as a separate self-study course.

How do I obtain continuing education credit?

Upon completion of the live workshop, a survey and quiz are sent electronically via Kajabi and email. You must complete and submit both in order to be reported to the ASHA CE Registry and to receive a certificate of completion. A passing score of 80% is required. The certificate will be available for immediate download following submission. This must be completed within 7 days of the workshop.

This workshop is for experienced SLPs, OTs, PTs, and other clinicians who already assess and treat feeding and orofacial myofunctional disorders and who want to strengthen their clinical reasoning on complex cases.

What does it cost?

This workshop is included in your Integrated Therapist™ membership at no additional cost.

What happens after I sign up?

You will receive the Zoom registration link prior to the workshop. If you want to be reported to the ASHA CE Registry you MUST complete this registration page in full (scroll to the bottom and fill out the entire form).

Refund policy: Monthly payments are non-refundable. You may cancel your future monthly membership at any time prior to the 48-hour renewal window. You will not be refunded for any training or materials already provided. Annual cancellations are handled by emailing support@feedthepeds.com prior to the renewal date.

If this workshop needs to be rescheduled you will be notified as soon as possible with the new date. No refunds are provided if a workshop date has to be moved by a presenter; a replacement workshop will be provided in the event that a scheduled presenter is unable to present.
